Cutaway presents the life of a young man told entirely by showing shots of his hands. We see him work in a monotonous job as a labourer, deal with multiple relationships with women and come to terms with an event that changes his life. Cutaway is an example of powerful storytelling as it enables us to get to know the main character’s thoughts and feelings without ever seeing his face. Taking the “less is more” approach, this film is shows that having a well constructed narrative can give you room to experiment visually. Cutaways is cleverly constructed, compelling and emotional.
