Ayano Tsukimi is an elderly woman from the small village of Nagoro in Japan.
Once a village that was home to hundreds, it is now inhabited by a mere 37 people. Due to this, Ayano creates life-sized dolls based of people who have moved away or died. With 350 figures, they easily outnumber the human inhabitants. The imagery of the dolls waiting at bus stops, sitting in classrooms and even tending to the plants creates and chilling and eerie tone to the documentary. A strange but charming film that looks into the theme of death in a way where it is welcomed rather than feared.
